English version follows

Zu ihnen zählen u.a.

The PGA’s First and only Advanced Fellow of the PGA in Germany!

'Without doubt Charles Mickle is one of the finest and most accomplished golf instructors in Europe'

Charles Mickle began his apprenticeship with Simon Boulden as a trainee professional in 1983 at the Llandudno Golf Club (Maesdu), home and birthplace of the PGA and birthplace of the PGA Championship and became fully qualified in 1988 at the young age of eighteen.

He moved to Germany to pursue a career as a teaching professional in which he has excelled and become one of the leading European coaches. He can claim being coach to Paul Azinger as one of his many career highlights amongst many other Tour players from the Men’s and Ladies Tours, including three current Tour players who are out gunning for success and also some local professionals and three German Internationals. Also; during this time he has introduced some 20,000 new golfers to the game in a period that has seen him exceed 70,000 lessons.

He is one of the existing first few British PGA pioneers or professionals who was able to successfully enable the growth of golf in the then new German Golf market and "we" ambassadors are directly responsible for the success of German Golf today. A more experienced and helpful coach you are very unlikely to find.

Charles moved into the position as Director of golf at his last three golf clubs before finally moving up another gear into Golf Course Architecture where one of his latest assignments was to plan and build a single hole costing over 2.million Euros, which involved importing some 1.6 million tons of earth to the site.

Having worked his way up the success ladder through continuous education, Charles has seen his PGA status rise from being a Class A and then a Class AA professional, to Advanced PGA Professional and later Fellow of the PGA status levels.  In 2009, he achieved the high position of becoming an Advanced Fellow of the PGA. He was not only surprised and overwhelmed, but also delighted to have received this award from the PGA chief executive Mr Sandy Jones in Munich and doubly delighted to be the FIRST PGA professional in Germany and on Mainland Europe to receive this honour through the PGA.

Charles in addition to successfully completing the PGA Advanced Diploma Programme stresses the importance of keeping up to date with information and new ideas, remembering a Doctors saying that he heard years ago, "those who stop learning…. also stop being good! ……", and recalls it is that, that has driven him forward to better things. It is a formula that has met with unqualified success wherever Charles has served and has made him one of the most sought-after experts in the highly competitive world of global Golf.

He firmly believes that PGA, APAL awards show you where your career is and where your peers are and that drives you forward, in an attempt to keep up with them and to improve.

Charles, is currently Director of Golf and Head Professional at the Zollmühle Golf Club in Southern Germany , where he successfully saw off the efforts of Germany’s best coach Martin Hasenbein for the top job and leads a team of five at the 2,100 member club. He has worked during the past 27 years at many of Germany’s top venue’s from Hamburg in the North to Munich in the South of Germany.

In Hamburg, he worked with the late Hanns Heiser a former partner to Bernhard Langer in the World Cup events and after a few years he moved to the South, where his golf shop business was rated in the top 3% of all German shops during the early to mid 1990’s. Soon he moved to being a Director of Golf at the club, after ten years he moved to the centre of Germany to take over from famous Harry Bannerman (ex-Ryder Cup player) and became Director of Golf and Head Professional before moving on after six years to a better position at his current club.

Charles says he is very proud to represent the British PGA in Germany, "our PGA" he says, "is the best in the world from the training of its professionals through to the advanced education one can receive today. The British PGA are the innovators of professional golf education and it’s high standards make us the best professionals, other PGA’s around Europe and the World would do well to copy the example set, often in comparrison having low standards, but none the less their members are allowed to call themselves PGA professionals after going through the respective training programme." But, believe me, there is a major difference in just about every facet of being called a PGA pro from a PGA that is outside of Great Britain, which is the main reason why golf clubs around the World want a british PGA Professional if possible !

In addition to successfully completing the Advanced Diploma Programme, Charles Mickle has a Director of Golf Diploma, a Diploma in Sports Psychology, a Diploma in Golf Club Management and a huge amount of experience as a Golf Architect with a large amount of experience in Golf Course Design and Builds alongside many other Business Qualifications ( 2-1 Degree in Business and Economics ) in addition to being a fully qualified member of the German PGA.

He has attended many seminars and conferences over the years such as the Red Bull conference at the Belfry, ( Butch Harmon ) the European coaching conferences (Hank Haney)  in order to be best placed in the market with regard to the golf swing and it’s amazing amount of possibilities. "It is absolutely of paramount importance to enjoy the learning process and make yourself knowledgeable, and be the best you can be, particularly when it has to do with your everyday job", he adds.

In addition to coaching he went into golf course Architecture, Designing, Building and Improving Courses and holes to meet today’s club and ball technology issues, building a state of the Art pitching area, a really fantastic feature on my last course which brought many guests from other clubs to our course to use this great practice facility amongst the many other alterations to courses and holes that he has to date undertaken, "but my calling is yet to come" he adds, as he is currently involved with designing and building a 27 hole course in Germany.

His work with junior golfers has been recognised for the second year running and his Junior Coaching was voted as being in the top 10 in Bayern (some 400) courses. Twice he has had the distinction of having coached the countries best male Junior from beginner to advanced scratch player. Charles says, "first and foremost coaching is my priority" it always was he adds, Throughout the years, I have coached 28 People mostly as beginners who have gone on to become fully qualified PGA Professionals in their own right, I don't think there is another PGA pro out there with that kind of record, at least not in Europe, "Architecture and Design takes second place".

As for Charles’ playing career he won many Pro-ams and alliance events around the North West and had many wins in Northern Germany. He holds 5 course records and in 1993 went to the European Tour Qualifying School. Lee Westwood won that event and Charles figured that if Lee was going to win by that many shots then there was not much point in wasting time and concentrated his efforts instead on coaching….something he’s also talented and fantastically good at going on the amount of young Tour professionals and fine Amateurs who seek his knowledge.

Apart from the above, one of the main reasons you should choose your club professional as your coach is that they are likely to care about YOU and your game more than any other professional. A good Professional will share the responsibility for how you perform and should be able to guide you to best practice and best performance. I/we look forward to helping you fulfil that potential.
